Eligibility

Hong Kong ID holders who are 16-18 years old, in their final two years of secondary school, and preparing for or would like to explore a career in veterinary medicine / science or veterinary para-professional fields such as veterinary nursing, animal behaviour and animal science

Introduction

Choosing a career of a lifetime is a daunting experience, it is more so when you have to make the decision early in your life to obtain a relevant university degree.

SPCA is introducing a 70-hour programme this summer for senior secondary school students interested to pursue a career in veterinary medicine or related fields.

The programme is suitable for students who have a strong interest in veterinary medicine or other related professions. The programme aims to provide the participants an immersive experience of being not only in the veterinary profession, but also with a focus on animal welfare and ethics.

Established in 1921, SPCA is the largest and longest standing animal welfare organisation in Hong Kong. In this programme, we provide a wide range of unique hands on experience including clinical observations, as well as caring for shelter animals.

We also offer lectures, interactive activities, and field trips to our partner organisations to expand and enrich knowledge in animal welfare, ethics, husbandry and behaviour.

Terms and Conditions

If Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above, or the Red/Black Rainstorm Warning, are hoisted within two hours before the activity start time, the programme will be cancelled. Backup classes will be arranged at a future date.
During the workshop and the practical attachment, participants must follow instructions given by SPCA staff members
Photographs and videos will be taken during the programme and the practical attachment, SPCA reserves the right to keep and use these materials.
SPCA reserves the right for the final decision and interpretation of the above terms.
Full payment must be made at the time of enrolment .
Full refund if cancellation made before 5pm HKT, 30 June2026.
No refund if cancellation made after 5pm HKT, 30 June 2026.
No refund if applicants fail to fulfil all enrolment requirements after 5pm HKT, 30 June 2026, and / or fail to fulfil minimum attendance requirement

Tetanus Waiver:
The SPCA (HK) feels it is important for all participants to be current on their tetanus vaccination as they will be handling animals. If you have questions about the tetanus vaccination, you are encouraged to consult with a doctor, at your own expense, to decide whether or not to be vaccinated.

Rabies Waiver:
While Hong Kong is a recognised rabies free region, participants may discuss a pre-exposure rabies vaccination series with a doctor, at their own expense, prior to making a decision on whether or not to be vaccinated.

Furthermore, I release the SPCA (HK) from any responsibility that may occur because of my not being vaccinated against tetanus and/or rabies and I understand that whatever decision I make regarding a tetanus and/or rabies vaccination is at my own risk.
